Privacy Policy
Just enough information to bake your order, and nothing more. Here is exactly what we keep and why.
The short version: we collect your name and contact details so we can bake and hand over your order, we do not sell anyone’s information, and this website has no advertising trackers. Your order bag is stored only in your own browser.
1. Who we are
Dessert House is a cloud bakery kitchen run by Preeti Marandi. We bake to order and take orders over WhatsApp, Instagram and email, as well as through the order builder on this website. For the purposes of data protection, we are the people responsible for the personal information described on this page.
This policy applies to this website and to orders placed with us. If you reach us through WhatsApp or Instagram, those platforms also process your data under their own privacy policies.
2. Information you give us
We only receive what you choose to send when you contact us or place an order:
- Your name, and the name of the person the order is for, if it’s a gift.
- Contact details — your phone number, WhatsApp number or email address.
- Order details — the treats you want, quantities, the date you need them, flavours, colours, cake messages and pickup or delivery preferences.
- Delivery details, where delivery is arranged: an address and any access notes.
- Messages, photos and voice notes you send us, including inspiration images.
- Dietary information, if you tell us about allergies or preferences. This can include health-related information, so we treat it with extra care and use it only to bake your order safely.
- Payment confirmation details for the advance, so we can match your payment to your order. We do not store card numbers or banking passwords, and the order builder on this site never asks for payment details.
3. Information collected automatically
This is a simple static website. There are no analytics scripts, advertising pixels, social media trackers or third-party embeds on these pages, and the fonts and images are served from this site rather than from external services.
The company that hosts the site may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, the page requested and the time of the request) for security and to keep the site online. Those logs are not used to build a profile of you.
4. What is stored on your device
The order bag on this site — the list of treats you tap “Add to order” for, plus the name and notes you type into the bag — is saved in your own browser using a feature called local storage.
- That information stays on your device. It is not sent to us until you press Send on WhatsApp, which opens your own WhatsApp or email app for you to review and send.
- There are no cookies used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
- You can clear the bag at any time with the Clear bag button, or by clearing your browser’s site data. Doing so removes everything the site had saved on your device.
5. How we use your information
- To reply to your message, quote a price and confirm your order.
- To bake your order properly — including adjusting recipes for allergies, eggless or less-sweet requests.
- To arrange pickup or delivery, and to reach you if something about your order needs checking.
- To keep a simple record of your order for accounting and for handling any follow-up question.
- To send you something only where you would expect it — for example, if you ask to be told about a seasonal menu. We do not add people to marketing lists without asking.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not use your details for advertising.
6. Who we share it with
We keep sharing to the minimum needed to fulfil your order:
- Messaging and social platforms. If you message us on WhatsApp or Instagram, that conversation is handled by those services under their own privacy policies (both are operated by Meta). Please check their policies for how they process your data.
- Email provider. If you email us, your message is processed by the email service that hosts our inbox.
- Delivery partners. Where delivery is arranged through someone else, we share only the name, address and phone number needed to complete the delivery.
- Payment services. If a payment or advance is made through a payment service, that service processes the transaction under its own policy. We see the confirmation, not your card details.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect someone’s safety or our legal rights.
7. How long we keep it
- Order details are kept only as long as needed to bake, hand over and support your order — and for a short while afterwards for simple record-keeping and accounting.
- Chat messages on WhatsApp or Instagram stay in those apps until either of us deletes them, so you can remove your side of the conversation at any time.
- Emails are kept for as long as they are useful for order history and records, and then deleted.
- Your order bag stays in your browser until you clear it — we never receive it.
8. Keeping it safe
We keep your information on password-protected, locked devices and keep messaging apps protected with two-step verification. We don’t share order details with anyone who isn’t involved in baking or delivering your order.
No method of storing or sending information is completely secure, so please avoid sending sensitive information that we don’t need — we will never ask for card numbers, CVV codes, passwords or one-time codes over chat.
9. Your choices
- Ask what we hold. Message us and we will tell you what information we have relating to you.
- Ask us to correct it. If a name, number or address is wrong, we’ll fix it.
- Ask us to delete it. We will remove what we can, unless we need to keep something for a legal or accounting reason, and we’ll tell you if that is the case.
- Stop messages. Just say so, and we will only reply when you message us first.
- Clear your order bag with the Clear bag button, or by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
- Contact us the way you prefer — WhatsApp, Instagram, email or phone. We may need to check your identity before acting on a request, so that nobody else can access your details.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local data protection law, such as objecting to certain processing or asking for your information in a portable format. Message us and we will help.
10. Children
Our treats are for everyone, but orders should be placed by an adult. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If a parent or guardian shares a child’s name or age — for a birthday cake, for example — that is fine, and we use it only for the order.
11. Other websites and apps
This site links to WhatsApp, Instagram and your email app. Those services are separate businesses with their own privacy policies, and once you leave this website their rules apply. We also can’t control the privacy practices of any other site you may reach from here.
12. Changes to this policy
If the kitchen starts using a new tool — a different messaging channel, an online payment link or an email newsletter — this policy will be updated to describe it. The date at the top of the page shows the last revision, and the version published here is the one that applies.
13. Contact us
